Mayor Baker came to update us on the Village.
Work is still being done at Beech Nut to remove all contaminates, estimated completion by June. No economic development opportunities at this time.
Water project continues to be under review for upgrades needed and awaiting funding.
Canal and NY Power authority will be making upgrades to canal for the prevention of flooding, this will change the depth of the canal and affect what types of recreational boats can make use of the canal. It will however hopefully increase recreational type use such as kayaking or canoeing.
Canajoharie’s lighting is also under review the plan will hopefully be to replace approximately 277 street lights with an upgraded system of LED lights that will allow time of use, intensity and testing to be done by computer. In the long term this will save money. This is being done in conjunction with National grid. Downtown lighting will be improved.
There is a public hearing scheduled 4/27/2020 to review zoning and codes.
The budget is looking at cuts and increased taxes at this time, due to NYS cutting revenues.
Eddie Watt also spoke in regards to the Village of Nelliston. A representative from Assemblyman Delgado’s office will be meeting with Matt Ossenfort to review the agricultural protective plan.
Greg Zelezny representing the Mohawk Valley Solstice came to present on their event schedule in June. This event will be held to support farmers and agricultural business in our area. The solstice festival will include music, trade show, corn hole tournament, petting zoo, beer garden and local vendors for the Farmer’s Market. Proceeds will go towards an emergency agricultural fund. Anyone interested in more information or making a donation can e-mail mvsoulstice@gmail.com
