Meeting Minutes

Call to order: Meeting called to order at 6 PM by President Janet Stanley

Minutes:  June Meeting cancelled, no minutes.

Treasurer’s Report: Balance: $3900. Motion to accept Sue Barker and Janine Nelson

Correspondence:No correspondence.

Old Business:

Bike tour is 2nd Friday in July. Janine will be selling T-shirts at the school. No music is scheduled at this time. Music on Mainstreet will be re-approached for next year as well as look for new sponsorship as it is felt this is an important event to support in our community.

New flags will be needed next year, donations are always welcome for these. A flag can be donated in memory of someone.

New Business:

Julie from the fire department shared that the Canajoharie fire department will celebrate its 85th year next year on 9/12/20. Letters will be going out looking for donations to support this event. In addition, the fire department hopes to have an LED display board constructed down town to replace the “yellow” sign. This will be for the fire department and non-profits to use with the fire department overseeing its use. Donations also needed for this.

A suggestion was made to send flowers to new businesses, Hazzard fitness will be opening and we will send flowers to welcome them.

Riverfront sign is being updated.

Janine suggested we try to find out about the cruises that go by, perhaps they would be willing to make us one of their stops.

October meeting is scheduled at Mercato’s and the December meeting at Gino’s.

A request will be made to the village for assistance with the flowers next year.

The JYP of Canajoharie was welcomed, they are pleased to announce they are now certified with NYS as s non profit and have a new home in Sprakers. JYP is an after-school program.

Membership: Dolores Jacksland and Sheryl Neal continue to collect memberships. Anyone who has not renewed will be taken off of the website.

Suggestion was made to return to using membership plaques. Each business if given a frame with an updated membership card. Dolores and Sheryl will be taking care of this.

Fundraising:  Planning for the Palatine Bridge cemetery tour going well. It is scheduled for 9/28 from 10-2 volunteers interested can contact Dolores Jacksland.

Other:  Village green needs weeding, cleaning and tending to. This can be done anytime by anyone willing to spend some time there. Jim Sancho does take care of this but could use some help.

Anyone wanting to have a booth at the volleyball tournament is welcome.

Janet Stanley announced the Street fair which will be held 9/14/19 sponsored by Lee Publications, event hopes to have a parade, vendors and food trucks, also a wing contest featuring our local restaurants. The chamber is encouraged to host a booth of some sort, a “pie in the face” booth was suggested. Applications can be picked up at Lee’s shops at Wagner Square.

Pastor Draffen shared that the Berean Bean is open to anyone, this is a place for the community to come together for fellowship and friendship.

Meetings: Meetings to be held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Next Chamber meeting 8/13/19 at Arkell Center at 6 PM.
